MEAT FOR THE ARMY.
NEW ZEALAND SHIPMENTS,
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Thursday. The Prime Minister has received inquiries from Australia as to what New Zealand is doing in regard to the shipment of frozen meat consigned to the Imperial Government. In reply Mr. Massey has sent to Mr. Mawson, the New Zealand agent in Melbourne, particulars of the meat already shipped viz., 15,609 quartern beef, 35,026 carcases of mutton, 55,005 carcases of mixed mutton and lamb, and 70,032 carcases of lamb. Steamers now loading will carry 521,200 carcases. The meat now in 6tore is estimated at 1,750,000 cacases. " I anticipate that we will be able to keep the supply for the Imperial Government going all through the winter," said Mr. Massey.
