WAIHI-PAEROA.

THE EFFECTS OF THE WAR. The annual meeting of the Waihi-Paeroa Gold Extraction Company, Ltd., was held at the office of the company, Williamson's Chambers, Shortland Street, yesterday afternoon. Mr. P. N. Kingswell, managing director, presided. 'I ho chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet for the year ended December 31, 1914, which was . published on March 25. referred to some I adverse circumstances which the company j had encountered during the past year, i The Huntly colliery disaster had cause! ian interruption in the coal supplies. It had been necessary to obtain coal from | Whangarei at an increased price, and this had kept the works only partly in operation. The war had also affected the company. At the last annual meeting he had been authorised to reduce stocks, and this had led, after the outbreak of war, to a shortage of cyanide, necessitating the purchase of supplies at a greatly enhanced price. The war had also led to other extra charges in freights, etc., and the total amount represented by the various causes referred to would be about £1500 for'the last part of the year. Were this amount added to the profit shown, the result would be very satisfactory. The recent floods in the river would probably increase the value of the sand. Dredging had been resumed on the previous day, and the report rei reived as to the results was very satisfac:tory. j Colonel G. W. S. Patterson seconded the : motion for the adoption of the report and I balance-sheet, which was carried. I Colonel W. D. Holgate" of Auckland. i and Mr. R. B. Jackson, of Nelson, two of I the ret'ring directors, were re-elected. j Mr. D. W. Dnthie. the other retiring director. was not a candidate for re-election. Mr. W. R. Holmes was re-elected auditor. A vote of thanks to the directors for their past services terminated tho meeting. NEW SYLVIA. \ The annual meeting of the New Sylvia Gold Mining Company, Ltd., was held yesterday, the Hon.
