The Press Bureau, in a communique based on statements made by refugees, describes the Turkish army which is being sent to invade Egypt as likely to display bravery but not capacity. Many of the Turkish troops are starving owing to bad organisation rather than to lack of supplies. They have neither sufficient horses nor camels. Many of the camels are dying. The troops are ill-clothed in summer khaki.
German officers reported to Berlin that they were unable to advise an attack on Egypt with such troops, and suggested a postponement. The Germans, however, ordered the march, though one c/Ccer describes the army as marching to certain death. Refugees state that there is bad feeling between the Turkish and German officers. The latter fear that if they do not succeed in crossing the Suez Canal the Turks will attack them.
