EGYPT PREPARED TO MEET INVADERS.

NAVY LIKELY TO PLAY IMPORTANT ROLE.

(Received January 18, 7.30 p.m.)

London', January 17.

The Times' military correspondent says: "If 70,000 Turks, as reported, are massing in Syria to cross the desert, they will meet with a warm reception. The navy can also take a leading part, not only in the Suez Canal, but in operating off EI Arish, on the Mediterranean coast, and in the Gulf of Akabah, at the head of the Red Sea. We ought to have all the trumps in our hands in playing this rubber, but we must not forget that the Turks fight with courage, and are a military people with great traditions, which must not be despised."
