BOROUGH COUNCILS.

MOUNT EDEN AFFAIRS.

WATER SUPPLY QUESTION.

The Mount Eden Borough Council met last night. There were present: —The Mayor, Mr. 0. Nicholson, and Messrs. C. Hudson, J. P. Hooton, E. H. Potter, D. Meikle. H. H. Seabrook. W. Woolley, A. Lee, J. W. Jones, and S. Burns. j The borough engineer, Mr. J. Rogers, | reported that the cost to the Mount Ros--1 kill Road Board of providing a 6in castiron main along Mount Eden Road, from the reservoir to Balmoral Road, was estimilted at £1810, including the provision of a short length near Boundary Road, to be substituted for the existing 4in main. The provision of a 9in cast-iron mam along Mount Eden Road, over the same dis- | tance, would involve an expenditure of £3700. The existing 6m main along Mount Eden Road was in a good state ot preservation, and as the proposed 9in main would provide an adequate supply of water, he recommended that the existing i main be disposed of to Mount Roskill on : suitable terms. The cost of removing the i main had been included in the expenditure on the 9in main. It was pointed out that the estimates were based on present English prices of material and current shipping freights, and that these were liable to fluctuation. It was decided to invite the Mount Roskill board to nve'et the council in conference and discuss the scheme.
