THE WOOL TRADE.
EMBARGO OX EXPORTS. '
SOUTH AMERICAN CLIP.
(Received November 15, 7.30 p.m.)
London, November 14.
The Daily Telegraph says that most traders approve of the embargo that has been placed on the export of Australian, New Zealand* and South African wool. Already there has been an avalanche of orders by cable to Buenos Aires and Monte Video on behalf of the United States, Sweden, Holland, Denmark, and Bradford.
The question that arises, says the paper, is how to prevent the enemy securing supplies of wool. The irony of the situation is contained in the fact that German interests largely prevail in the South American wool trade.
It is suggested that if the War Office bought a large weight of the present South American clip, .and quickly placed the wool at the disposal of British manufacturers, practically no loss would be suffered. Every facility, it is urged, should be given to the importation of the new clip from New Zealand and South American crossbreds, as it is imperative that an adequate supply should be secured as quickly as possible.
