GIGANTIC WEAPONS.

GERMAN SIEGE GUNS.

FORCE OF DETONATIONS.

Times and Sydney Sun Services.

London, October 22.

A war correspondent of the Berlin newspaper VosFische Zeitung, in describing the action of the German 42-centimetre guns (about 16iin), says: " The mouths of the guns are lowered bo that the shells can bo loaded with greater ease. Then they stand erect, proudly looking towards the sky. The distance having been determined, the great moment has arrived. Carefully the fuse is brought to tho trigger, which is pulled by two men when the officer calls ' Fire A gigantic ball of fire 40ft in diameter is formed at the mouth of the gun. A deafening crash resounds, a strong air pressure is felt. The windowpanes of a house 350 ft in front of tho gun are all shattered, and the roof partially blown off. A little round body appears above the mouth of the barrel of the gun, rises straight in a steep lino and disappears in the clouds, being driven upwards with the ease of a child's ball. Shots follow at intervals of ten minutes. The impression on the atmosphere is gigantic even at a great distance. Our quarters arc 850 yds removed I from the guns, but the house re-' ceives a shock at every shot."
