CANTERBURY PRODUCE.

FEW SALES OF WHEAT. [BY telegraph.—press association.] Christchtrch, Friday. I Since th© price of wheat was raised by | tho Government to 5s 3d f.0.b., a fewsmall lines have been sold on a basis of that figure. There are, however, few offers from holders. The Government is making inquiries among grain merchants, millers, and farmers to ascertain if possible the amount of wheat that is held, to see if supplies are sufficient until next harvest. More rain is wanted for crops, otherwise the outlook for the harvest will not be very satisfactory. It is usual, however, to get rain in Canterbury about the second week in November.

There is less inquiry for oatc, as the rains in Australia have done away with ft possible outlet in that direction. Oatsheaf chaff keeps fairly firm at £3 per ton for bright samples, but the demand is not very active. Potatoes are still slow of sale at 20s per ton. The damage done by frost to earlv crops in Wellington district should lengthen out the demand for old potatoes in that market.

The price of bran has been raised from £4 5s to £4 15s per ton. There, has been a keen demand on the -part of Home buyers for cheese, and Southern and North Island factories have sold their outputs up to 6jd per lb on trucks.
