REVIEW OF MARKETS.
FRUIT VERY SCARCE.
» A slight improvement has taken plate in e tho fruit and produce market this week, l owing to the arrival of the Makura from Vancouver and the Talune rom Rarotonga. Canadian shipments of apples were only sufficient for requirements, and almost the whole of consignments, which consisted of about 4700 cases, have been disposed of. i Oranges by the Talune were short of requirements, and any lines in good condition were promptly "sold. A good many were over-ripe and bad. Bananas by the same boat sold well. No Sydney or Tasmanian fruit came to hand. In local fruit only St. Michael oranges - and lemons aro being offered. A few f strawberry Are making their appearance. t The continued dry weather is having a very bad effect on them, and also on early - stone fruit. New potatoes were forward in much • larger quantities, and show a decline on last week's values. The lack of rain is seriously interfering with the growth, and . prime large samples are scarce. Old I potatoes are still in good supply at nominal rates, with no prospect at present of im- • provemont. Small and seed samples aro , unsalable. j Onion are in good demand, and only .
