PROGRESS OF THE BATTLE IN POLAND.

GERMAN'S HURLED BACK OX MAIN POSITION. INCESSANT FIGHTING IN WESTERN GALICIA. Peteograd, October 20. Fierce fighting occurred to the westward of Warsaw, where the Russians hurled back the Germans toward their main position on the line from Skiernicwice, south of Czenstochowa, through Kielce to Sandomierz, on the Galician frontier, north-west of Przemysl. Shrapnel wrought havoc in the German ranks. Many corpses arc floating down the Vistula. Incessant fighting is in progress in Western Galicia, where the Austrians made unavailing efforts to cross the River San. Another report states that the Russians gained partial successes at Warsaw in a very hot engagement, and were also partially successful in tho operations southward of Przemysl. The strategical front in Galicia grows steadily larger, and now extends from Sandomierz to the Carpathians.
