AUCKLAND'S ACTIVITY.

EQUIPPED MEN DESPATCHED.

HAMILTON RAISES £2000-

A splendid response has ken made by the Waikato to the appeal for funds and equipmont in connection with the expeditionary force. At a meeting at Hamilton yesterday, the Mayor reported that Waiuku had raised £354, Whakatane £140, Raglan £300 besides horses, Kihikibi 10 horses. Tho offer to completely equip the local units with horses and transport vehicles has been accepted by the Government. The Mayor further reported that a total of £2000 in money and kind had been received locally. Since the meeting a cheque for £100 wa6 received from Mr. A. J. Storey.

An enthusiastic meeting of the Cambridge Rifle Club was held on Wednesday evening. The chairman, Mr. F. Potts, read a notice from the acting-commander of the 4th Group, requesting him to take immediate steps to have all active members of the club enrolled in the territorial infantry force. As the orders had to be carried out by August 17, the meeting proceeded to at once swear in members, 60 being enrolled. Other Centres. The Mayor of Frankton has received a telegram from the Minister for Defence in regard to the offer of a fuHy-eouinped six-gun horse team, expressing tho Government's warm appreciation of tho offer, which has been gratefully accepted. Donations ' are still coming in freely to the Frankton fund.

In response to the appeal for funds to equip the expeditionary force, an enthusiastic meeting of residents was held at Buckland .on Wednesday. The sum of £123 was subscribed in tho room. Tho women of the district are also working enthusiastically making necessaries for the men, and are subscribing liberally to a fund for the purchase of material.

Messrs. W. H. B. Firth and L. Zinzan, of Mauku, have placed waggons at tho disposal of the Department.

Eleven infantry left Kaitaia yesterday by the Atipouri for the Auckland camp. A number of mounted men will travel overland to Whangarei to-day.

The second' quota of tho northern section of the expeditionary force was farewelled at Whangarei yesterday, amid scenes of great enthusiasm. The remainder of the men were ordered to hand in their uniforms. The incident caused considerable . comment. Somo of the territorials have explained that they could not leavo their farms at a day's notice, and that they would be willing to servo in an expeditionary force as soon as thoy had completed the necessary arrangements.
