LOSS OF THE AMPHION.
MANY DIED IN THEIR BUNKS
THREE FATAL EXPLOSIONS.
London, August 12. A survivor from H.M.S. Amphion, which struck a mine and sank with 130 hands, after chasing the Koenigen Luise, states that there were two distinct explosions- The first tore open the bows of the cruiser, and the second ripped up her side. Many who perished were asleep in their bunks.
There was no panic when the men - went to the -life-boats, the wounded being handed in first.
Before the Amphion sank .her magazine. exploded, and the: fragments killed three of the survivors who had reached the rescuing torpedo boat destroyers.
