CONSUMPTIVE SANATORIUM.
HOSPITAL BOARD'S INQUIRIES,
A special meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board was held last evening to consider the question of establishing a consumptive sanatorium. Mr. "J. M. Mennio presided, and said that, seeing the Government had to find such a largo portion of the money, he thought it wag only right to invite some of its officers to attend the meeting, and Dr. Makgill, district health officer, and Dr. Bernstein, who had charge of the Maungakawa Sanatorium, would give their views on tho subject. Dr. Makgill said he thought tho board should abandon me idea. of erecting a sanatorium at present and make use of the Cambridge Sanatorium. Tho public bodies had to conserve their funds at present, and in any case the sanatorium was not .a. very pressing matter. Dr. Bernstein was also of opinion that the site selected was not ' suitable, and the existing institution should bo utilised. He addressed the board at some length on the question of consumption and its treatment. As a committee of the board is considering the matter, the board decided that it should bo discussed at a future meeting.
