[by telegraph.— association.] WELUNGToy, Tuesday. The Wellington Central Chamber of Commerce has' established a bureau, which, it is hoped, will be of considerable assistance to all business men at the present time, when difficulties as to goods and payment for goods have to bo considered.

PRISONERS OF WAR. DETACHMENT FROM AUCKLAND. [BT TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.! Wellington, Tuesday. Three of the carriages on the special troop train, which arrived here to-day from Auckland, contained 32 German prisoners, who had been arrested in the North. On the platforms of the carriages were guards with fixed bayonets, to see that no attempt was mndo by the captives to regain liberty. The most of them were young men, who would be liable to servo in the army of the Fatherland.

Under a strong escort of the Railway Corps, with fixed bayonets, the Germans were taken to the Alexandra Barracks. Accompanying the escort were two officers with drawn swords, while at the rear rode two mounted police constables.

In all probability the men will be placed on. Somes Island, which is to be used for the detention of prisoners of war.

RESOLUTION OF PRESBYTERY.

A patriotic resolution was passed unanimously at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Presbytery. The resolution, which was bronchi forward by the Rev. Isaac Jolly, asked tho, people of the Church, in view of tho grave position of the Empire, to pray earnestly that an honourable peace might soon be restored to Europe, and that the horrors of war micht soon ceaso. In conclusion the resolution expressed the hope that the British Empire might bo strengthened and purified bv all the dangers and trials that, beset it in what was an entirely righteous war.

SUPPLIES FOR GREAT BRITAIN.

Tho following resolution was passed at a meeting held at the Globe Theatre on Sunday:—"That this meeting expresses its approval cf the action of the Government, in considering methods for preventing, during the present crisis, the exploitation of the people, by raising the cost of the necessaries of life. It further urges the Government, in the event of the war being prolonged, to assume complete control of the food supplies, and that tho surplus over and above what is necessary for the people of New Zealand, bo forwarded to Great Britain at ordinary marI ket, rata." .
