IMPERIAL RESERVISTS.

CALL TO THE FRONT.

PROVISION FOR FAMILIES.

A number of Imperial reservists have received orders to go to the- front, and it is possible that a number of their families will be left without means. Yesterday Colonel Plugge interviewed the (Mayor of Auckland in regard to the position.

The Mayor stated that old Imperial reservists summoned Home for service need have no fear in regard to their families. The citizens of Auckland would see to it that the reservists' families obtained employment wherever possible. In any case tho citizens would see that they were quite free from want during the time the husbands and fathers were at the front.

Questioned subsequently, the Mayor stated that the position of the reservists and their families proved the wisdom of the Citizens* Committee in providing that the Patriotic Fund should be raised not only to assist the Government, but also to assist in mitigating loss and distress in tho district.

"I am sure," said the Mayor, "that the | citizens of Auckland, knowing that the j reservists are mostly men of tho working : class, will subscribe all the more liberally to the Patriotic Fund, as a portion of tho fund will be used in keeping the dependents of old soldiers and sailors from cares and want. In my opinion this should be one of the first charges on tho fund."
