HONOUR FOR BRAVE DEFENDERS OF LIEGE.

Paris, August 9.
President Poincare has telegraphed to the King of the Belgians stating that the French Government Bad decided to decorate valiant; city of Liege, and to confer tho Legion of Honour upon its brave, defenders, and the whole of the Belgian Army, with which the French Army had been shedding its blood on tho battlefield since morning.
President Poincarc's phrase refers to the fighting at Marbehan, in Belgian Luxemburg, where a Brubscl's report states the Bavarian troops were defeated,
[The Legion of Honour, which is the only order of knighthood in Fiance, and ono which, in its higher grades, ranks in estimation with tho highest European orders, was instituted by Napoleon Bonaparte on May 19, 1802, as a general military and civil order of merit. Tho order consists of five classes: Grand cross, limited to 80;' grand officer, limited to 200; commander, limited to 1000; officers, limited to 4000; and chevalier or knight, in which tha number is unlimited. The limitations in number do not affect tho foreign recipients of the order.]
