Nine more Germans were taken into custody as prisoners of war by the Auckland police yesterday.
A resident of Devonport, Herman Weiniger, slipped and fell heavily yesterday, breaking his leg. lie was admitted to the hospital.
Nearly 200 of the King's Veteran Guards and South African veterans paraded the streets last evening, headed by the Onehunga Band.
Whilo crossing a road in Newmarket at about eight o'clock last evening, a small boy was knocked down by a tramcar which had just stinted. He was caught in tho life-guard, however, thus escaping with a few bruises.
A German sailor, who admitted in the Police Court yesterday that he had deserted from a British merchantman, was discharged without penalty, but was immediately taken charge of by the polico and sent to Wellington in the afternoon.
The following was the state of His Majesty's prison, Auckland, for the week ending August 8:—On remand, 1 male; awaiting trial, 12 males; sentenced for life, 3 males; sentenced to hard labour, 239 males, 17 females; sentenced to imprisonment, 1 male; default of bail, 5 males; debtors, 2 males: received during the week. 20 males, 3 females; discharged, "' 18 males, 4 females: total in prison, 263 males, 17 females.
