ASHBURTON'S EXPERIENCE.
[by telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] Ashbuiiton, Monday. An address was given to-night by Mr. H. D Bedford under the auspices of tho Ashburton No-license Council when tho following resolution was unanimously carried :—
"That this meeting of over 500 people emphatically contradicts ' the,, statement carried by rteolution at a recent local meeting of lc6S than 30 persons that nolicense has enforced debasing and degrading systems and practices upon Ashburton, and this meeting further affirms that in Afihburton no-license has considerably reduced drinking and drunkenness and all its attendant evils." "MODERATE" AIMS. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Timabtt, Monday. A meeting of representative citizens, including leading commercial and professional men, was held to-night when a Moderate Party was formed for the purpose of combating the no-license movement. Committees were appointed and it was resolved to work strenuously with similar bodies in other parts of the Dominion.
