A SHORT SITTING.
THEFT OF BRUSHES.
The actions of a coloured man named Tianui Npaki were investigated by Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. The accused pleaded guilty to the theft of two hairbrushes, valued at ss, the property of the City Council, ajid to having used obscene language. Ngaki, it appeared, went into one of the public lavatories, and was ejected, owing to his inebriated condition. He returned, however, and made off with the two brushes. When subsequently arrested and questioned about the brushes, he made Use of the language complained of. The accused was sentenced to seven days' hard labour on the obscene language charge. As the theft was commuted whilst he was under the influence of liquor, he was convicted and discharged on that count. TIRED OF WORK. William DaJziel admitted that he was ail idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support. It was stated that he had been knocking about the town for some time doing no work and drinking heavily. Dabsiel was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, on condition that he goes away at once into the country, and does some honest work. INTEMPERANCE. Convicted of insobriety, two absent first offenders each forfeited his £1 bail. Three other first offenders were fined 5s each, whilst another, who agreed to be prohibited, was convicted and discharged. An old man named John Turner, convicted of being drunk for the second time recently, was remanded until Thursday for medical treatment.
