THIRD DEGREE METHODS.
VICTORIAN PEOPLE ROUSED. By Telegraph— Association— (Received December 12, 9.55 p.m.) Melbourne, Dccemb'er 12. Tnu "third degree" methods that are said to have been applied in the babyfarming case are arousing great indignation. The children of the late Mrs. Newman are alleged to have been subjected to 12 hours/ 1 examination, and her husband to a 14 hours' ordeal. Mr. Prendergast (Chief Secretary) is taking steps to ascertain who is responsible for the introduction of the American system.
