GENERAL LABOURERS' UNION
TO SEEK AN AWARD.
A special meeting of the Auckland Builders and General Labourers' Union (registered under the Arbitration Act) was held in the Trades' Hall last evening. It was decided to make application for a new award. The rates of wages to heasked for are Is 3d per hour, and a 44hour week. Compulsory unionism is also provided for in the new demands. In regard to the Federation of Labour, it was decided that a ballot should be taken of the whole of the members of the union on the question of whether it should continue an affiliated body or not. Th© old General Labourers' Union held fts final meeting on Friday night last. It will be remembered that this union some time ago decided to sever its connection with the Federation of Labour. The present union, although it has registered under the Arbitration Act, was organised to some extent under the auspices of the federation.
