REMUERA'S WATER SUPPLY

A DEFENCE OF THE BOARD. THREATENED SHORTAGE DENIED. The matte? of the water supply at Remuera was reviewed: by the Mayor of Auck-' land (Mr. C. J. Parr) in an interview with a Hebaxb representative published yesterday. Certain of the statements made by Mr. Parr are refuted by Mr. J. S. Dickson and Mr. Munro Wilson (chairman and engineer "of the Remuera Road Board respectively); who assert that the position is not unsatisfactory. According to Messrs..Dickson and Wilson the Oity Council's waterworks engineer gave the board no advice at all as regards the size -of tiio water mains which should be laid from Mount Eden to the reservoir at the top of Mount Hob-' son- All the board heard from the City . Council was, Ibhat it would supply . the water, but would take no responsibility. The statement of the Mayor that he understood the reservoir Had never been filled owing to the water being consumed, as' fast as it came in,, is met -by the reply I that the reservoir can Bo filled at any time, the board desired. It will hold sufficient ! water, Mr. Dickson states, to supply the district's needs for six days. ?,.. He adds that the pipes were put down over three years ago. At that ""time the board had not sufficient money to make larger. connections. The building of a reservoir to supply the whole district was, however, contemplated, and with the aid of the loam raised for the purpose such a, reservoir, holding 1,000,000 gallons was built, and completed two months ago. There is now in tho bank,; Mr.' Dickson states, a considerable amount of unspent loan money, which is available for the putting in of a bigger main. : . The present main, however, is quite largfc enough, in tho opinion of the chairman and, engineer of the' Board,-as - -the reservoir fills every night.
