IMPROVED WORKING CONDITIONS.

The continuation of the conference was asked for by the management of the company. , The proposed new agreement submitted by the company was extensively gone into by both sides, the employers fully explaining the details of its proposals. The full text of the company's proposals is yet to be made public, but it is understood that, compared with the men's demands, the wago increases are slight, but that there are_ several improvements in the working conditions. It is understood that the company's wish is that the men in certain departments, namely, the second officers, revenue clerks, and * gangers, at present members of the union, should be absolved from the operation of tho now agreement. This, it is stated, the members of the union are not likely to agree to. The meeting of the men will in all | probability be held on Thursday. . ■
