SECURING THE FREEHOLD.
CROWN TENANTS AND NEW LAND ACT.
[BT IELEGRAr-H.OWN. CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Thursday. It is reported by a gentleman, who has, says the Post, recently been in close touch with settlers in tho North Island, that holders of Crown leases have gladly welcomed the amendment of the Land Act, enabling them to acquire the freehold of their holdings. At one country settlement, within a week after the passing of tho Act, four applications were made by lease in perpetuity tenants for the purchase of the freehold, and one of the four has already engaged a surveyor to subdivide his holding (when ho has the freehold) and enable him to re-sell it to the public.
