THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
The total number of bales of hemp graded during October was 8871 as compared with 7349 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 1522 bales. For the 12 months ending October 31, 1912, the .number of bales graded was 93,041 as compared 'with 95,906 for the previous 12 months, the decrease being 2865 bales.' During the month 3083 bales of tow were dealt with, as compared with 1985 for the corresponding month of last year, an increase of 1098 bales. For tho 12 montlis ending October 31, 1912, tho number of bales graded was 26,848, as against 28,655 for the previous 12 months, the decrease being 1807 bales. It will bo seen that for the 12 months there is still a substantial shortage, but the present high rates for fibre are expected to have a markedly stimulating effect on the production.
