ALLEGED TAMPERING WITH TELEGRAMS.

The Supreme Court sittings .opened to-day, before Mr. Justice Chapman, who, in his address to tho grand jury, congratulated the district on tho total absence of crime on this occasion. The, only criminal business wa.-j tho case adjourned from the previous sessions against John Vernon Binley, telegraph operator, and Edmund Jolin Walsh, grocer, for conspiracy to defraud bookmakers by tampering with telegrams in connection with the Wanganui rages. Other counts were also preferred against l)ot,h accused for attempted false pretences, ono count, against Binley alone, being for obtaining money under false pretences, and the forgery of a telegram.
