In the 'House . of Representatives this afternoon Mr. Poland (M.P. for Ohinemuri) asked the Minister for Public Works' to obtain a. report on the siltingup of the Waihou and Ohinenruri Rivers, through thev deposit of tailings from the Waihi-Paeroai gold extracting - works. Hon. W. Eraser (Minister., for Public Works) replied that Mr. Young, engineer of tho. river improvement works, would bo instructed to furnish • the - desired report.

Mr. Poland expressed satisfaction at this promise. H© said tho tailings from the now process formed a solid cementlike mass, , which could not be removed. When a flood occurred, recent deposits ■which had not been solidified, were carried over the adjoining lands, causing much more damage than the tailings which had not been , subjected to the second process.
