TE AROHA.
BOROUGH COUNCIL.
At the monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council the clerk reported that the overdraft stood at £2800. The borough electrician urged the Council to continue the introduction of meters. He recommended tho installation of another generator and Pel ton wheel. There is such an increase in the use of electricity that tho available plant is too small to cope with the load. The engineer recommended the introduction of further machinery at. an estimated cost of £6000. It was agreed to hold a special meeting to discuss the matter.
As the result of a meeting, at which Messrs. Mulgan and George George were present, it has been decided to take steps to erect a manual training school at Te Aroha.
HAMILTON,
ARBOR DAY.
The Hamilton West Public School celebrated Arbor Day on Wednesday. Some 80 trees were planted in the school grounds, and a number in the garden which fronts the school. Addresses were given by Messrs. Auld (chairman of the School Committee) Fow (Deputy-Mayor), and Morsley (headmaster).
CAMBRIDGE.
CHAMBER, OF COMMERCE.
A meeting of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce -was held on Thursdav evening. Tho under-secretory for the Department of Justice -wrote * stating thab_ the chamber's request for fortnightly saltings of the Court would receive consideration. Iu regard to the proposal that tho Government should bo asked to authorise a continuation of the railway line by connecting Cambridge with Thau., a special committee was appointed to confer with a wellknown local authority. A resolution was passed to the effect that the Borough Council should be asked to extend the brick-building area. It was also decided to ask for an extension, of the telephone exchange hours. A meeting of St. Andrew's vestry was held on Thursday evening, the Rev. C. Mortimer Jones presiding. Reference was made to the death of the church secretary (Mr. P. A. E. Forbes), and a resolution of sympathy with his relatives was passed. Air. R. W. Hunter having tendered his resignation as treasurer, Mr. Joseph Jay was appointed in his stead.
