WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD.

, A DISSATISFIED COUNTY CLERK.

[[IT TFXF.GBAFn. —OWX COBHBSPONDENT. ] Hamilton, Fridav.

At a meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board, a letter was received from the clerk . to the Waitomo County Council in reply to a letter from the Board pointing ont that the Council was a defaulter in regard to its hospital levy. The clerk replied to the effect that if his influence could persuade his Council to become defaulters altogether, they certainly would do so, as the consideration they had received from the Board was very limited.

Mr. Boddie (member for Waitomo) said he was not only surprised, but ashamed, that* a letter of that description should have been sent by the clerk of the county. He represented that he did not think that the clerk would have written such a letter, nor did he know of any reason why it should have been sent. He was sure the Hospital Board had done its best to cater for the wants of the whole district, and he absolutely repudiated any such suggestion as was indicated in the letter. It was absolutely unwarranted and uncalled for.

It was unanimously decided to return the letter.

A complaint was received from the Taranaki Board that patients were coming from Awakino to their hospital, and a request was made that Awakino should be transferred to the Waikato district. It was decided to remit the fees in regard to the lad Clyde Redshaw, who had both hands amputated at Huntly. Mr. Emery, of Dnnedin, thanked the surgeon and staff for the careful and skilful treatment his wife had received whilst in the hospital, and enclosed £20 as a donation to the hospital funds. Dr. Douglas reported that the average number of patients for the month had . been 104, with six deaths, while 50 operations bad been performed. The treasurer's statement showed receipts to be £2129 2s lOd, and the loan account debit £7500. and the general account credit £470 13? 6d.
