THE DUTY ON MACHINERY.

While delivering his Financial Statement on September 8, 1911, Sir Joseph Ward proposed to admit free of duty machinery for the development of the oilfields, or to admit such machinery by provision on the Estimates. No definite indication was given as. to the time during which free admission was to continue, nor was the nature of the articles to be embraced by the term 'plant" definitely specified. For the information of those interested the Government desires to announce that the promise made on September 8 will be earned out, so far as it refers to all machinery and to plant declared to be for oil-boring purposes, provided it can be shown to the satisfaction of the Collector of Customs to have been ordered since September 8, 1911, and prior to July 26, 1912.
