The reef in the north drive at low level in the New Waitaia mino (Knaotunu) is straightening up and increasing in size. Tho ore looks well, showing strong gold in the hard stone, the loose seam on the wall also giving very coarse gold in the dish.- The framework of low level hopper is erected, and as soon as this is finished crushing operations will be started, probably within a fortnight. NOTES. In tho Otama section of the Handsworth United mine (Kuaotunu) . the lead in No. 2 stope is becoming more defined, and making on the flinty. Nob. 3 and 4 stopes are both producing good crushing material, showing gold freely. About 15ft has been cleaned out and limbered in the western drive being opened up for air and prospecting purposes. The low tunnel in tho Rising Sun mino (Karangahake) was extended 7ft during last week, making a total of 1884 ft. The country being penetrated continues to be of a favourable description, composed of blocky sandstone with mineral seams. The quartz leader in tho face is getting stronger, and is now sin wide, carrying gold. ( The breakdown of reef in the lowest level of the Mountain King mine (Kuaotunu) last week proved quite equal in quality to any previous breakdown. There was from scwt to 6cwj, easily picked.out, showing streaks of fine gold. There is still from Bft to 10ft to drive to get under the winze, being sunk from tho upper main level, and which is now down a total distance of 38ft, and every breakdown from same showed gold in the solid stone. The lode in the winze is about 12in wide, and in tho main level shows from 3ft to 4ft of crushing dirt., larger ' than any hitherto on this level. No. 2 stope in tho north block on the No. 1 reef in Bremner's Freehold mino (Ooromandel) was extended Cft last week. Tho reef is 4in wide, and a few colours wero seen in the quartz at last breakingdown. The No. 1 crosscut east was extended 7ft for the week through a splendid class of mineralised country.
