- MOUNT EDEN. • Tee Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. > Present: The Mayor , (Mr. 0. Nicholson), and Messrs. 0. J. Tanks, J. Davis, E. Yates, S. Burns, N. Woolley, J. Jones, H. H. Seabrqok, W. Meiklei E. H. Potter, Ben. Grayson, and 0. Hudson. ; . The meeting was constituted a special meeting for the s passing of an order authorising the borrowing of an additional £100 to complete the swimming-baths, the sum of £1000 already, borrowed being insufficient to complete the wit. The annual balance-sheet, which the town elerk reported ~ had been sent back by the AuditorGeneral without tags, was adopted and ordered to be printed. . '■-..;.-■■■'. A license was issued for St. Barnabas's Hall, it being a condition that the hall be not used for picture shows unless the machine and operator be enclosed in an asbestos enclosure, and certain .fire-extinguishers provided. 'Bishop Cleary requested the Council to put Onslow Bead in order, as it was intended shortly to erect a -church, school and presbytery there. It was decided to inform the Bishop that tho Council could not comply with the request. The Epsom "Koad Board, which intends to institute a house-to-house collection of refuse, asked to bo allowed to use the Mount Eden Borough rubbish tip. : The tip being hardly sufficient, tor the purposes, of the borough, the Council could not grant the request. . . * It was decided that the Council could not see its way to pay wages to its hands on fcabouT Day with the ; exception of permanent employees.

■ GREY LYNN. '; •'.';." The Grey Lynn Borough Council met last evening when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. W. Murray) and Messrs. J. A. Warnocfc, C. Norgrove, G Baildon, J. M. Tattersfield, F. Brinsden, F. Parsons, and W. Donald. , The Mayor extended a hearty welcome to Mr. Warnock, who has just returned to Auckland, after a prolonged visit to the older world. . Mr Warnock, who was elected as a member of the Council during bis absence, returned his thanks to the ratepayers for the confidence they had reposed in him and , also to the members of the Council for their cordial welcome on his re'urn after an absence of 15 months. He added that he was delighted to observe that Grey Lvnn was progressing like other places in the Auckland district and keeping step with them. The Mavor suggested that the Council's workmen should be allowed a holiday on full pay on Labour Day 'Mr. Baildon held the opinion that the Council's hands should be treated in the same way as were the employees of private! firms. A motion to the effect that the men should not ho paid for the holiday was agreed to. ; * Mr W. Dimery wrote offering to sell a fiveacre block of land adjoining the reserve at Richmond to the Council for £2200, the, Government valuation. The offer was referred to the Finance of. Mr. H. E. Martin, of Waiwera, to oresent the Council with a portrait of hie late i.-other (Mr. <N. ! E. Martin) was accepted with thanks. Avenue:—William Kt for the removal of 16,797 yds of material pi<s74 'l4s sd, with 6d per yard extra for carting to the farther end of Williamson Avenue; Messrs. Walker and Nash, £1700 and 6d per.ton extra for the carting. After a short discussion, the matter K referred to the Finance and Legal Committee to consult with the engineer on the matter.
