MINING NEWS.

OLD HAURAKI.

.The manager of tho Old Hauraki mine, Coromandel, reporting for last week, states that at the 400 ft level the seaward face was extended Bft. .", The reef is 3ft wide. In the north face 4ft was advanced, no quartz being taken down. Two stopes are in progress at No. 1 block, and 101b of picked stone were obtained. At No. 2 block two stopes are in progress, the reef being up to 9isuin width, and carrying strong mineral indications. At. No. 3 block one stope is being worked. The reef is making stronger, and 51b of picked stone were selected.

WAIOTAHI. * The manager of the Waiotahi mine reports that the No. 7 lever crosscut has been in progress,' and is now in a distance of 117 ft from the chamber. The water is still standing 6ft above the bottom of the shaft, NOTES. Trenching work in tho Seddon mine,, Waiorongomai, was being carried on last week with fair results, and some reefs carrying nice minerals were mot with. During last week the rise in the New Success mine, Coromandel, was timbered, and No. 4 stope was advanced 7ft. The lode shows good dish prospects, but nothing visiblo in the stone. The mineral indications are favourable for gold. The main, tunnel in the Mount Welcome mine, Coromandel. . was last week extended 4ft, making a total of 611 ft. During the week several quartz stringers were cut, carrying a good deal of water. The second stope, in No. 2 block of stopes, was advanced 4ft. The rise is up sufficiently high to proceed with another stope, which is 3ffc ahead. The rise on the Loyalty reef in the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, was extended 15ft -last week, making a total of 57ft from the low level. The country is better for progress, but the reef is smaller than usual. Operations in* the Golden Belt mine, Neavesville, last week were confined to the low level. The reef in the etopes is looking well and some strong colours of coarse gold nave been seen in the north end of the stope. At this point the run of gold is getting longer, and if it keeps its present underlie will probably, turn out to be the same run as exists in the south end of the road level. ..

The No. 4 reef at the 400 ft lever in the Hauraki Reefs mine, Coromandel, averages about 12in in thickness, and during last week strong dabs of gold were to bo seen in the quartz. Stripping was carried out on both the Nos. 1 and 2 reefs, and by the present trend of these reefs they should junction with one another in a few feet. No. 2 reef - averages about 14in in width, and at last breaking down strong colours of gold were seen in the quartz. No. 1 reef is about 15in wide. Work at the, company's" shaft has been confined to stoping out a small block of ground on the Colconda reef below No. 1 level, and fair crushing dirt is being won from it.
