RIFLE SHOOTING.

AKARANA RIFLE CLUB. The 1911-12 season 0f... the Akarana Defence Rifle Club was opened at the Penrose rifle range on Saturday afternoon. There' "was a large attendance of members,; and their friends, and, while some useful shooting practice was carried out, an enjoyable afternoon was spent. A troublesome " left " was blowing, otherwise the weather conditions were good. Some creditable shoots were registered. A. J. King put on 100 points out of the possible I(JS. A. J. McIntyre made 99, A. G. Devore and J. Anderson each 98, and R. G. Cox 97. Range possibles were registered by A. G. Devore, R. G. Cox, J. Anderson, M. W. Atkinson; and E. Keston. A. J. King (A section! J.fK. McIntyre (B section), and B. Doughty (0 section) registered wins for the respective trophies, and these members take the silver spoons, one of which is allotted -to each section weekly. Simultaneously with the trophy shoot a teams' match, 23 men a-side was fired, resulting in a win Tor the B team 26 Points. .The totals were:—A team, 2063, B team, 2089. AUCKLAND CITY CLUB. The newly-f»rmed Auckland city Rifle Club held its opening day on Penrose Rifle Range on Saturday. Teams were selected by the president (Mr. J. Anderson) and the secretary (Mr. J. C. Yeo), resulting in a win, ™ the president's teajn by 12 points. P. J. McCarthy made top score with 99, including & possible at 200 yds, while President Anderson and K. G.
