[BY TELEGRAPH. — ASSOCIATION.] CHBI3TCHUBCH, Thursday. | The Dunlop road race from Clvristchurch to Timaru, a distance of 112 miles, was held to-day. A moderate cold head wind had to be faced l>y the competitors during the first half of the journey. The roads were generally good, but there were sonic soft places wltere the dry weather and traffic liad loosened the shingle. About 60 finished within an hour of each other. The race was won by \V. C. Prehble, of Christohurch (55 minutes), with E. Slow, of Fairlie (35min.), second, Coleman, of Marchlanda (26min.), third ; A. Wallace, of Mat aura (22min.), fourth; W. Garrett, of Hornby (28min.), fifth; H. H. Gunderson, of Christchuroli (29min.), sixth ; and K. England, of Orari (26min.), seventh. Next in order came H. Galletley (Ashhurton) and Rovket (Ashburton), P. Gillespie (Voxton). P. Humm, W. C. Englefield, H. Henderson, and T. O'Shea. The scratch men. secured the following places : — O'Shea, 14th; .1. Coulter, 16th; A. 13. L. Smith. 23th; and J. Clark, 53rd. P. O'f-Tiost (Christchurch"! made tho fastest time —S!i. 37m.,3 l-ss. ■!. Cbultou (Woodvlllc) was next in SI). 37m. 4s. O'Shea had a bad fall at Temuka. Prehble ra one of a small party of leaders at Ashhurton, and kept his lead all the way. This was his third attempt in the Dunlop race. Hfc is 22 years of age and weighs 9st 91b. He rode all the way except when wading the Selwyn River, and did not stop for refreshments. A very large crowd assembled to see the finish of the race, the winning point being in Slain street.
