The New Zealand Indies' hockey tournament was continued to-day in fine weather. Some of the games were very exciting. Lord and Lady Islington and party motored-,to Day's Bay during the afternoon, and paid a visit to several of the games. The contest between Wellington A and Buller was interesting, and the exhibition of hockey showed great improvement. As the result of their win, Wellington A are now qualified to compete in the semi-finals, and this is the first year at any tournament in which the local team have appeared so high on the list. Early in the second half Wellington scored the only goal of the game. Hawko's Bay defeated Marlborough by 2 goals to 1. This was a. very keen and exciting struggle. Auckland beat Canterbury B by 4 goals to 1. The hard and bumpy nature of the ground marie good play out of the question, but both teams Fought out a keen ■ struggle. Auckland were the superior team all , through, their combination at times being < splendid. Canterbury's forward play was very irregular, and combination un-
known. Their hitting was misplaced, and th« bunching of the forwards was detrimental tc he Southerners' play. All Auckland'#. goal'
■vere secured through good forward play, r.. At half-time Auckland was leading: by 2 goal* to nil,, tho result of two excellent shots l)y Misses Kenny end Bennett. Canterbury . shone bettor in tho second half. The backs defended the circle better, and the forwards mad© many attempts to reduce Auckland's lead, but without success. lliEses Kenny and Wylie scored for Auckland in this epell, and Miss Rhodos for Canterbury. Wairarspa beat West Coast by 2 goals to nil. This was a very even, but monotonous game. Manawatu defeated Wellington B by 8 goals to nil, after a one-sided frame.
