INVITATION TO TASMANIAN TEAM
[BY TELKORAPH — ASSOCIATION'.]
Christchcrch, Thursday.
At a meeting of the committee of the Cantorbury Cricket Association this evening the New Zealand Cricket Council wrote stating that it was in communication with the Tasmania:! Cricket Association With a view to arranging, if possible, for a team from Tasmania, to visit New Zealand during the coming season. In the discussion which ensued it was pointed out that it would cost as much to get a Taanranian team to visit the Dominion as a New South Wales or Victorian team, whilst it van possible that the prates at the matches against the Tasmania!! team would not be as good as those at matches against an Australian team. , , The chairman (-aid that they did not know what had influenced the council in opening up negotiations for a- visit from a Tasmanian team, but it was probable thai. the council considered that a first-class Tasmanuin team would l>e better than a second-class team from either New South Wales or Victoria. He thought it was about 20 year* siaoe a Tasmanian team had visited New Zealand. . , , It was decided that the secretary of the association should interview the secretary of the council to ascertain further particulars regarding the matter. .
