BLOWN TO ATOMS.
A WHALING LAUNCH LOST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Blenheim, Wednesday. Early this morning a whaling launch owned by J. Pearano and Co., of Picton, was totally destroyed in Queen Charlotte Sound. The launch was beached last night for purposes of cleaning and overhauling. On one. of the occupants lighting a lantern preparatory to beginning operations the benzine ignited. This was followed by an explosion of dynamite, and three men were hurled some distance along the beach. One named George Baxter received, painful burns. The boat was blown to atoms and everything was lost, including the whaling gear. The loss is estimated at close upon £800. „ '■'
