THE FEDERAL REFERENDA.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. ■ ' Sydney/, August 23. The Labour Conference laughed out a motion that Messrs. Holman and Beeby be expelled from the movement. In speaking on the motion censuring members who did not support the referenda (which was rejected by a large majority), ■ Mr. Hughes and others failed to arouse enthusiasm. Mr. Holman, in replying, attacked Mr. Hughes, and declared that three matters of the five in the referendum proposals were not in the Labour platform, and were not binding on members ...of., the -Labour party. He. contended that the State party was not bound to follow the Federal party in matters not in the platform, a statement which was greeted with cheers.
After the Conference adourned Mr. Holman stated that the Government had every reason to be pleased at the attitude adopted.
