THE WOOL SALES.

■ BUOYANT, MARKET EXPECTED.

The wool trade in Auckland has been brisk during the past few days, in anticipation of the firet sales of the season to be held on Wednesday. It is expected that well over 5000 bales will be catalogued, as against 4666 bales last 'year, which, in turn, was an increase of 286 bales over the total of the opening 1907 sales. -■~'. . ' ■ '

Merchants expect to meet a buoyant market, in sympathy with the satisfactory prices which have been realised at other New Zealand sales. The bidding •, of American buyers at Christchurch on Thursday was especially brisk, and doubtless strenuous efforts will be put forward at f the Auckland sales to secure a large proportion of > the wool for the United States. It is considered that super halfbreds will probably go well over Is, possibly reaching even 15d for very fine lots. It is also possible that mediums will range from lOd to Is Ojd, while other wools will probably realise corresponding prices.
