William . KowaltzkL aged 18 years, was wallaby-shooting at . Blenheim, near, Laidley (Queensland), last: week, when a gun exploded, the bullet passing through his head. Death was instantaneous. .
Samuel Phillips was drowned in. a dam at •■ Burra ? Station, near Trundle (New South Wales), last week. Two companions made an unsuccessful attempt to rescue him. He leaves a wife and s.i two young children. •
The labour market in Southland is normal just now, and the majority. of the industrial branches seem busy and well supplied. Sawmilling is brisk and flaxmilling and farm work are likewise, to all appearances, in good condition. >

John M. Ward, 17, clerk in the Moree branch of the Commercial Bank of Sydney, was drowned in the Gwydir River last week. In company with two other bank clerks he entered the river to bathe. Ward took cramps and immediately sank, the body being recovered next day in 14ft of water. , *
