BILLIARDS.

To allay tho arguments brought to bear against them that billiards led young men to th© hotels, he had interviewed tho inspector of police, and! inquired as to how many of the large number of hotels in the Balmain district held billiard licenses. Tho inspector said in reply: "Because th©re are so many schools of arts with billiard tables that men will not go to the hotols to play. And they have since proved that to be true.
