MEETINGS.
ST. DAVID'S DEBATING SOCIETY. There was a fairly large attendance of members at the above society's meeting last Monday, when tho evening was spent in competitions. The following were the prizewinners:—Reading competition, Miss MacSporran; spelling, Miss I. Probert and Mr. J. M. Elliffe equal; singing, Mr. W. H. McKinney; recitation, Mr. R. Ward. MOUNT ALBERT SOCIAL CLUB. On Monday evening last the Mount Albert Literary and Social Club held: their usual meeting, the subject being the " Elizabethan Period of English History." Tho'programme proved a very interesting one, the many papers read showing a high standard of merit. Tho following constituted the programme:—"Colonisation," by Mr. Q. M. Fowlds; "Poets and Authors," Miss Page; " Commerce and Manufactures," Mr. W. Caughey; "Literature and Art," Miss James; "Notable Men, and for What Noted," Mr. T. J. Marshall; "Social Manners and Customs," Miss G. Harbutt: "Queen Elizabeth," Mr. J. G. Watson.
