A SCHOOL GRIEVANCE.

Sir.—There is a matter of considerable im : portance in school arrangements at Manunui that requires immediate attention. Some months ago our School Committee applied for an enlargement of the school budding, 'on account of the large increase of scholars, 'the school being very much overcrowded. in due time the enlargement was built, and ■both the committee and teachers were looking forward to the children having proper space and comforts. The committee at onco applied to' the Education. Board for the Jnecessary seats. The Board advised the comiuitteo to apply to the Public Works Department. ; the committee did so, and the Public ;Works Department referred the committee back to the Education Board, and so the matter goes on week after week, one Department referring the committor to the other, and in the meantime the poor children are sitting akimbo on the floor, shivering with the cold. There are 120 children attending the school, and sitting accommodation for EO. How long would this kind of treatment bo tolerated in, or near, one of our large centres? No wonder so many people hang round tho towns and refuse to go to the back "blocks, where' there are so many hardships tend injustices to contend with.. In conclusion, I may state the residents contributed (between £40 and £50 towards the first school building— injustice in a Dominion where education is supposed to be free. If 'the Education Board or Publio Works Department, whichever received that money, 'would kindly refund tho full amount to the School Committee, tho seat trouble would toon be overcome. A RESIDE?!. Manunui.
