AUCKLAND CLUB'S COMPETITIONS.

The semi-finals of the Auckland Golf Club's championship will be commenced today at Cornwall Park links. P. Upton meets Bamford, and Burns will play the winner of ; S. Upton and Lusk, which match will be decided to-day. Tho programmes of the New Zealand golf championship meeting are now in the hands of the secretary, and can be had on application. WAITEMATA LADIES' CLUB. The second round of the. Waitemata Ladies' Club monthly medal was won by Miss M. Alison, with the net score of 76, Miss I. Duder being second with 84. The following games must be played before Tuesday:—Mrs. Napier's prize: Mrs. Hardy plays Miss E. Alison; Miss K. McCormick plays Miss V. Souter; and Miss Murray play.-i Miss M. Rose. A bye must be given if the games aro not played before Tuesday. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. The time-table for the New Zealand Golf Championships, to bo played at Auckland, is as follows: — Monday, September 13: 9.30 a.m., open championship of Now Zealand, first round; 1.30 p.m., open championship of New Zealand, second round. Tuesday: 9.30 a.m., open (third round) and first qualifying round (amateur), concurrent with this is nlayed first round medal handicap; 1.30 p.m., open (fourth round) and second qualifying round (amateur), concurrent with this is played the second round medal handicap, also inter-club challenge vase.

Wednesday: 8.30 a.m., professional match play (first round); 9.30 a.m., first round match play (amateur championship); 1.30 p.m., bogey handicap. Thursday: 8.30 a»m., professional match play (second round); 9.30 a.m., second round match play (amateur championship); 1.30 p.m., foursomes bogey handicap. Friday: 8.30 a.m., professional match play (third round); 9,30 a.m.-, third round match play (amateur championship); 1.30 p.m., fourth round match play (amateur championship); 3.15 p.m., driving competition and approaching and putting competition. , An ingenious trick by moans of which golf balls were stolen was described the other day at the Feltham Police Court (says the Daily Express). Members of the Fulwell Golf Club noticed that when a ball was driven a boy in the distance would bend down and then stand upright again. When the player reached the spot the! ball would have vanished. It was discovered that the boys cut small pieces of turf and scooped out tho earth underneath them, so as to form a receptacle with a - lid. " Balls were dropped into them, and "remained hidden until it was safe for tho boys to remove them. • -

Clements, who beat Arthur Duncan at Palmerston North last Saturday, is a young New Zealander, 19 years of ago. He was for some years a caddie on the Auckland links, and owes his knowledge of the game to Hood the older (says a Southern oxchange). He is slim and wiry, and has a wonderfully easy style. His approach shots are excellent, and in putting he is steady and . very accurate. Ho has frequently done 75 on tno ordinary Manawatu course. Tho courso on Saturday was altered, on account of the rain, and was three strokes longer. Great interest centred in the match, which was witnessed by visitors from Wanganui and Feilding and Wellington, as well as large numbers of local people. In tho morning Duncan finished one up, the- cards reading: Duncan, 78; Clements, 80. In the afternoon Clements finished two up with a score of 82. Duncan's score was 86.
