The billiard tournament in connection ■with St. Benedict's Recreation Club, -which caused much amusement, and interest to members, was decided this week. Messrs. E. Owen (50 on) and W. "Wright (60 onf were left in the final, which, after an excellent game, was won by Mr. Wright by 27 points- The first prize, a handsome cue and case, was presented by Messrs. Alcock and Co. . .

The now tournament room of Messrs. Alcock and Co., in George-street, Sydney, has just been completed. The fittings and furnishings of this room are. on a lavish scale, and seating has been arranged for 500 people. As an opening event a match will be played between Mr. .Fred. Lindrum, champion of Australasia, and young George Gray, who holds the world's record off the red ball. Details of the oonditions governing the match have not yet come to hand. A championship standard pocket table will be specially erected for the match, and it has boon decided by the players to use crystalat© balls- The match is creating much interest in Australasian billiard circles, and many New ■ Zealand • admirers of young Gray will be pleased should the boy wonder, bo successful. Mr. Fred. Farrell, of this city, has received advices from Sydney that Mr. Harry Gray has decided not to take his son George to England this year. Master George Gray is said to have grown considerably and filled out since ho visited, the Dominion, and just now is in excellent form. The youngster lias mado much progress in the top of table game, and frequently makes the Century without playing from hand. Both Mr. Harry Gray and , his son are looking pleasantly forward •to the match with Fred. Lindrum, which should prove a great game and attract good houses. As is well known, Mr. Harry Gray is managing a mammoth billiard room, equipped with 25 Alcock and Co. full-size tables, in Sydney, and sends the kindest regards of himsolf and son to all Now Zealand friends, /
