YACHTING..

DEVONPORT YACHT CLUE'S "AT

HOME."

Despite the vivid lightning, terrific thunder, and delugo of rain of last night, tho Dcvonport Yacht Club's "At Home' at the Foresters' Hill, Dcvonport, was well attended. The committee had decorated the hall most appropriately, the • stage being ' transformed into a ship's bridge, with ascending companionways, wheel and compass, all complete. Even tho ship's lights, starboard and port, were not omitted, and threw their green and red rays on the gaily-dressed forms of tho club's guests. Early in tho overling's programme of dancing, Commodore C. P. Murdoch presented the prizes won during tho past season to the successful owners. In the course of his speech, tho commodore pointed out that yachting prizes were not won without a goodly display of skill, and often physicaL courage. Ho also mentioned that a pleasing feature about tho trophies was that, without exception, they had been selected! by tho winners, for ultimate presentation to those who no doubt helped largely to make yachting a successful sport sweethearts and wives of members. Tho principal event of the year, tho Mackv clip, was won by Mr. Oliver's Iris. Dancing was indulged in until tho early hours of this morning to the strains of Burke's orchestra. The secretarial arrangements for the function, which was most enjoyable and successful, were carried out by Mr. W- E. Alexander, who had the assistance of a strong committee.
