Goody our, pupil-teacher, Newton West; Miss Veronica McCarthy, pupil-: teacher, .Potnell,... The committee recom- r mended that the Warkworth School . Committee bo asked to choose between the alternatives of the employment of ■ two pupil-' teachers in the school or the appointment of a second assistant in lieu thereof, and that they be informed that, no further addition to the staff can bo made by the Board. The' committee had deferred their recommendation in regard to the selection of teachers and teachers to fill, vacancies which ; will arise in tho staffs proscribed by the Education Amendment Act at its commencement in January, 1809. Tho report was adopted. "%■ Tenders: Tho chairman reported that the tender of L. Melnntry (£1473) for the erecj tion of a new infant department ;in brick ! at Remuera had been accepted; also that acceptance of the tender of Mr. O. K. Farrow (£685) for the erection of a school building at Waihi South had been authorised. For the enlargement of the Mount Eden school ten tenders were recoived, - and the lowest, that of Mr. F. W. Brown (£469), was accepted. Tho grant for the work is £550. Tenders were also received for the erection of a teacher's residence at < Mntalcoho No. 2, the lowest being £395. As the grant is only £360 it was decided to decline all the tenders and to instruct the architect to report further in the matter. •. ' School to be Closed: The chairman stated that the Minister had boon informed that it was intended to close the existing school at Koutu, there being a school established at Pakanae. "'/■.• " \ . Inspection of Private Schools: Tho Education Board notified that, it ( .had been decided by the .Government- to make..# grant for the purpose of tho inspection of private schools, payment to be. made at the. rate of £1 for each school and 6d for each. pupil in - attendance at the date of inspection. Members of the Board expressed approval of the proposal. ' ( , New Buildings: The erection of a now school at Kauroa (Raglan) was approved. A new school and residence at Pakoka (Raglan) were also authorised.
