THE' DISTRICT SCHEME. SPECIAL MEETING OF AUCKLAND • ASSOCIATION. A special general meeting: of the delegates of the Auckland Cricket Association was . held last evening' in the Amateur Sports Olubrooms, Mr. C. H. S. McKinney (vice-president) presiding. The meeting was held for the purpose of discussing the motion from the Eden Club relative to the five years'. qualification of a player making' him eligible to play for his old club, regardlessof the district scheme. . The motion was as follows —" A cricketer who has played for a district club for five successive cricket seasons may, with the consent of the Management Committee, be qualified to play for that district club for the rest of his . cricket career, or until he plays for some other district club." ' The Eden Club delegates—Messrs. Jenkins, Beale, and —advocated the adoption of the rule. Mr. Beale, in hi,s remarks,. stated that no club was more jealous of the integrity of the district scheme than the Eden Club, for they had the most at stake, being the only club in the district. that had a private ground. Professor Sogar (University) spoke in favour of giving the scheme a trial. Should they do so their action was not irrevocable, and-be for one, should ho still continue to be a delegate, would not hesitate to vote for a reversion- to the old order if such a course was considered necessary , after a season's trial. He was sorry the motion was not tabled in its original form, because he rather mistrusted the powers .'of the" Management Committee. ■ Mr. Lusk (Varnell) did not . altogether like the proposal, but, as the case from, which it arose was a-hard one, he would move:' "That' Mr.: Hobfion, who . was cut off from his old club (Eden) by rearrangement of boundary, be allowed to play for the Eden Club if he wishes." The amendment caused some discussion, several questioning its legality and principle. Mr. Rice said lie was pleased to see that Mr. Liiklc had bee&. converted to Mr. Baalo's original motion, for be had proposed to extend the privilege to one man, and might not many more similar cases arise? Mr. Lusk • interjected that exceptional casesneeded special enabling acts to meet their needs. The Chairman, said he was rather antagonistic to the motion at first, but since it was possible to rescind the rules, should they nob prove workable, he would now favour the system being given a trial." The chairman having ruled that Mr. Lust's amendment was. an alternative proposal, Professor Segar proposed, "That Mr. Lusk be granted permission to bring forward his proposal should' the original motion not be carried." , ■> This was carried on the voices. A vote was then taken on the motion, and the -voting being equal the chairman ruled that the proposal was lost, a three-fifths majority being necessary to alter rule# at a general meeting. An endeavour was then-made by several delegates of clubs other than Eden to legislate, in order to meet Hobson's case, which , was recog- ( nised as a hard one. The first proposal, ." That' Hobson be allowed, if .he so desire to play , for Eden .Club," brought up some discussion as to precedent, Professor Segar remarking that it would bo an absolute mistake to legislate for an individual. - The " Hobson's choice" proposal, as one delegate called it. was withdrawn in favour of a proposal by Mr. Lusk, " That the boundary of Eden district be extended so as to include Mr. Hobson's house." This proposal, however, could not be put to the meeting without the consent of a three-fifths majority of the delegates present, .which was not obtainable, and the meeting therefore ended without result. ' .
