BOXING.
-- MEETING OB' NORTHERN ASSOCIATION. A meeting of tha executive committee of tbtf Northern Boxing Association was held last evening In the Amateur Sporw Okibrooms, Mr. 0. B. Rogers (vice-president) in the chair. The arrangements tor the president's carnival were reported to bo well in luiml. Application had been made to the Police Department for a permit, and final arrangements were entered into. The following is the programme, as at! present arranged Smith (of Auckland) v. Kane (of _ Australasian fleet), Montague (1907 bantamweight elvampioa) v. Little (1903 champion),. Stevens (Wellington) v. Thornton (Auckland), heavy-weights. Volunteer light-weight championship: A large entry has been received. Staumorft • v. Myles (9st 41b novice class); M. McCarthy will box the winner of Crane and McLennan. Falling either of these, Metcalfe will bo matched against." McCarthy. Several other . applications from competitor* have been received, but will bo deferred for,a, future carnival. _ A letter was also received from Gault, who desires to be matched by the association again si Godfrey. The application was deferred for futurs . consideration, the association having under discussion the holding of a carnival later in the year, when it is possible the match may bo arranged. Kane, the champion boxer of Who Australasian! fleet, has wired to . the Northern Boxing Association from LyHolton to the effect that ho will bo in Auckland to meet Smith, the Auckland middleweight champion, at the president's carnival on the 17th Inst. Some doubt had been expressed as to Kane's ability to be here on the date of the carnival. Kane is champion all-round athlete of the fleet and has expressed his willingness to wrestle any local man of his own weight (middle) on some future eccoslon.
